C&B Wedding Bells

Cathy Lehman, our cousin who so generously created the “Editor” sign for Dad is now Cathy McIntyre. OnSaturday,February 16th, 2002, Cathy and her wonderful Bob got married at Saint Francis of Assisi church in La Quinta, CA. Cathy andBob arranged for a beautiful weekend of festivities, and it was a wonderful family event.

Chris and I got to Rancho Mirage (desert digs for Ken Lehman) on Thursday afternoon, just in time for the festivities to start, and we all celebrated St. Valentine’s day together at the Condo. As usual, it was a huge family gathering with great company, food, drink, and music. Cathy gave us all our assignments, and thus started a whirlwind weekend. I’ve never seen organization like that. We had the tasks down to the hour, and everything was considered. Even a practice makeup session (hereafter to be called the “makeup wars”) on Friday was in the plan. The planning paid off big, too. Everything went off without a hitch.

After a relatively tame rehearsal party (by Lehman standards), we all got to bed early so that we could make the most of Cathy and Bob’s big day. True to Cathy’s planning, the wedding strarted at 11:00 am on the dot. The priest provided a ceremony that made everyone happy to be there. He spoke to Catholics and non-Catholics in a way that made us all feel comfortable
and joyous. Kenny did a couple of readings, and Sheila sang two beautiful songs. We hope our tape of her songs does her justice; what a beautiful voice she has. Many people said (and we agree) that it was the best and most joyful wedding they’d ever been to.

After the wedding, finding the restaurant where the reception would be was a piece of wedding cake. After all, Cathy the sign goddess struck early and effectively. There was a huge sign on the street that said “Cathy and Bob’s Reception” with a directing arrow toward the restaurant. At the reception, we enjoyed renewing our acquaintance with some old friends and many relatives. Dad should remember Carl Butler (of the Montreal Butlers), and the MacIntoshes from some of Uncle Ken’s parties. Many of Auntie Theresa’s relatives were there as well. Some we’d met before, some we hadn’t. It was great to seeeveryone. There were some very emotional toasts, and Uncle Ken sang a beautiful song for Cathy and Bob. Not a dry eye in the place.

Now, you’d think all the fun stops there, wouldn’t you? Not in the Lehman family, it doesn’t! After the reception, many of us returned to the Condo for yet another party. Sort of a wind-down, change-of-clothes event. It was a great chance to party with a smaller crowd and see more of the folks there. And on the following day (although we had to miss this), there was a
brunch for those people who hadn’t had enough partying yet. You can imagine, that’s still lots of people.

Of course, the fun will never end for Cathy and Bob. They’re a wonderful couple, and they’re delightful together. With their beautiful greyhound, Dasher, they’re a loving family who’ll always be happy and joyful, and we couldn’t wish for more happiness than they are sure to have. Congratulations to the new family!

Saying Goodbye To A Special Friend

Thunder 1984-2002

Thunder, was a handsome black and white short hair male cat with beautiful green
eyes, who passed away while we were on vacation, on April 9, 2002 of heart failture.
Ferne, of the Toronto Cat Rescue brought him in the Danforth Clinic. Thunder ntered our lives on January 19, 1999. He was abandoned in an apartment with her
sister Lightning. Well, they both had a home here. Thunder was in and out of Danforth eterinary Clinic.

On December 21, 1999 I discovered he was lying in the kitchen with a lump on his neck, by the time he ran to the front of the house D'Arcy's computer room the lump was getting bigger so I called Barbara and off we went to Danforth Clinic. Then again on January 5, 2000 for minor bleeding on that spot where they drained the Abcess. Then on February 12, 200 I was getting ready to go out for supper with D'Arcy's family when he began to pant then he ran in the basement. I went after by the time I got there he was panting harder. I picked him up carefully and brought him upstars D'Arcy called Barbara and since Danforth Clinic was closed she called Morris who came to pick Thunder up in his van to bring him to Northview Pet Hospital where he
was checked by Dr. Tunde. They kept him for one week. They operated on him to take out some teeth but it was touch and go for he had an enlarged heart. Thunder being the trooper he was came though the operation and was back home in February.

We nicknamed him the hugging cat because everytime you would pick him up he would put his front paws around your neck. He would snuggle on everyone's lap. He was a lovable cat. Every night as soon as D'Arcy would come home from work Thunder would snuggle up to his shoulder. Then when we would go to bed he would share my pillow with me. I hope wherever he is someone is sharing a pillow with him.Thunder, you will be missed.

California Here We Come

We left for San Francisco at 9:00 this morning March 30, 2002. We had no problem with departure except that when D'Arcy gave Canada Customs the serial numbers for the laptop and the camera the agent remarked that he would be seeing him as "secondary" on the way back. He asked why and was told that
it was because he looked like a biker and would probably be pulled for that.

D'Arcy met an old friend from ISG, Ted he was on his way to Aspen we had breakfast together.

We arrived in San Francisco at 11:45 we took a taxi to Cruise America. We arrived at Cruise America about 1:00, we were told our Valkyrie was damaged and they wouldn't rent it but, for the same price they would rent us a 2001 Black Goldwing with our starting mileage at 11451.

Then D'Arcy and I ate at "Best of Tia Noodle" then we met Jason and Heather had drinks with them at the Magnolia in Haight Ashbury. We departed to find a room at the Capri Motel in Redwood City.

On Sunday morning we ate breakfast at Royal Donut where we talked with members of San Mateo Hog. We went to San Jose for the blessing of the Bikes. There were thousands of bikes there. We saw many local clubs such as Soul Brothers, Dragons, Skeleton Crew, Freedom Riders and many more.

That night we stayed at the Springtime Inn where there is a sign in the manger's office that read "Pets Charge $10.00." Just imagine if we took all our cats the cats would pay more than us.

Most of our trip was traveling the hills and the back roads of California. We did Highway 1 which is California's famous Coast twice. We visited
D'Arcy's Uncle Ken in Rancho Mirage and stayed with him for one night. Rode some more hills.

Went to see Chris and Agnes in Santa Cruz stayed with them two nights. We went all out the last night with fancy dinner and stayed at a fancy hotel. We woke up it was nice and sunny we hated to come home.

We had breakfast at Denny's the day we left on April 13, 2002 then headed for Cruise America to give them the Goldwing with mileage of 14330. We did almost 3,000 miles this trip. We took a shuttle to the airport and guess who was driving, a Hells Angel.

We had a terrific time. If you would like to see pictures of our wonderful trip please go to my website click on PHOTOS then click on Friends and Family once you are there you click on Vacation 2002. We divided the pictures into Days . Example Day 1, Day 2 etc. ENJOY.

Excerpts from a Cat's Diary

Day number 752
My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh
meat, while I am forced to eat dry cereal. The only thing that keeps me from going insane is the
hope of escape, and the mild satisfaction I get from ruining the occasional piece of furniture.
Tomorrow I may eat another houseplant.

Day number 761
Today my attempt to kill my captors by weaving around their feet while they were walking almost succeeded, must try this at the top of the stairs. In an attempt to disgust and repulse these vile oppressors, I once again induced myself to vomit on their favorite chair...must try this on their bed.

Day number 765
Decapitated a mouse and brought them the headless body, in attempt to make them aware of what I am capable of, and to strike fear into their hearts. They only cooed and condescended about what a good little cat I was .....Hmmm. Not working according to plan.

Day number 768
I am finally aware of how sadistic they are. For no good reason I was chosen for the water torture. This time however it included a burning foamy chemical called "shampoo." What sick minds could invent such a liquid. My only consolation is the piece of thumb still stuck between my teeth.

Day number 771
There was some sort of gathering of their accomplices. I was placed in solitary throughout the
event. However, I could hear the noise and smell the foul odor of the glass tubes they call "beer".
More importantly I overheard that my confinement was due to MY power of "allergies." Must learn what this is and how to use it to my advantage.

Day number 774
I am convinced the other captives are flunkies and maybe snitches. The dog is routinely released
and seems more than happy to return. He is obviously a half-wit. The bird on the other hand has
got to be an informant, and speaks with them regularly. I am certain he reports my every move. Due to his current placement in the metal room his safety is assured. But I can wait -- it is only a matter of time...
